Change History For

Behavior Rating Inventory for Children

164 Shared Subjects

The BRIC is a 5-item scale designed for clinicians to quickly rate a child’s global behavior during a structured assessment session. The scale was purposely kept short to reduce clinician burden by allowing it to be completed within a minute or two. Three of the items assessed the three main symptoms of ADHD (i.e., hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention) and are therefore referred to as the ADHD Symptom Triad. The other two items assessed indicators of impairment often associated with ADHD symptomatology (i.e. mood and sociability) and are thus called the Mood/Sociability Factor. These two items were selected as they were thought to reflect areas of impairment related to ADHD symptoms that are likely to arise in the preschool years. All five items were rated on a 5-point Likert Scale. DOI: 10.1177/1087054709332476
