HEAL Data Ecosystem
The HEAL Data Ecosystem collaboratively facilitate management, sharing, and reuse of data generated by HEAL-supported research studies. Through the HEAL Data Ecosystem, broad distribution of knowledge pertaining to opioid misuse and pain will help accelerate scientific solutions to address opioid use, overdose, pain, and co-occurring conditions. HEAL data will be accessible through the HEAL Platform, a cloud-based environment where users can search for, access, and compute on data.
The HEAL Platform is a distributed architecture. HEAL researchers from different studies can select data storage options from a list of various HEAL-compliant repositories. The HEAL Data Ecosystem collects study-level metadata to enable discovery through the HEAL Platform. The NIMH Data Archive is one HEAL-compliant repository.
HEAL Data Sharing Policy
Research teams funded by the NIH HEAL Initiative must manage and share their data according to a data management and sharing plan submitted at the time of application. Through participating in the HEAL Data Ecosystem, HEAL awardees will make their HEAL data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR), in line with the HEAL Public Access and Data Sharing Policy.
Complying with HEAL Data Sharing Requirements
HEAL-supported researchers must submit data underlying publications to a HEAL-compliant repository for long-term storage. Studies that determine it is appropriate for their needs can submit their data to the NIMH Data Archive. For thorough information on other processes and requirements to make HEAL data compliant, use this checklist.
HEAL Investigators interested in leveraging the NIMH Data Archive (NDA) should request the creation of an NDA Collection via the NDA Helpdesk. When you contact the NDA Help Desk to establish a Collection, indicate that you are associated with the HEAL Initiative.
